"What in the World Made you Decide to Start This Business?"

When we first started building Great Eastern Pet Cremation this was the #1 question we were asked, and I get it, it's definitely out of the box.

I'll be honest, when my husband first came to me with the idea of a pet cremation service, I was a hard pass. I LOVE animals, all of them, and I just didn't think it was something I'd be able to do. But once the seed was planted, I couldn't shake it. I had heard stories from friends about waiting weeks to have their pet's ashes returned to them and how that really affected their grieving process. We also knew that our beloved puggle, Gus, was getting closer to end of life and that we'd have to say goodbye sometime soon. I couldn't imagine waiting that long to have his ashes returned to us.

So, I did what everyone does when they want to learn more about something.

Googled it.

The more I learned about the shortage in northern Minnesota, the cremation process and how much of a difference a positive experience can help families grieve I felt completely drawn to the idea. One week after my husband suggested the business, I was 100% on board.

Getting Started....

We started the building process as well as working with equipment companies and training. It was all very new to us, but we were very blessed with amazing support from our families and friends. Six months later "Great Eastern Pet Cremation" was open and ready to serve our surrounding communities. (The naming of the business was one of the toughest parts, but that's a story for another day)

We have had the honor to serve so many families and help them through the process of staying goodbye. Is it as difficult as I expected it to be, yes. Is it worth it, also yes. Our customers are amazing people who make the hard parts of this business more than worth it.

I am so thankful that Jake suggested the idea and that the Lord put it on my heart to move forward with it. Five months after we opened our business, we had to make the difficult decision to say goodbye to our Gus. Gus was a huge part of our lives, and we get to honor his memory by helping families during their time of loss.

As you can imagine I still get some pretty strange looks when I meet new people and get the question "what do you do for a living?" The question is usually followed by "what in the world made you decide to do that?"

The short answer is: As animal lovers we saw a need for this service in our area and decided to fill that need for pet owners in our surrounding communities.
